Psoriasis is a genetic disease affecting the skin making it red in most cases. It is estimated that 3% of people have psoriasis in the United States. Psoriasis starts as a tiny and inflamed rash on the skin. When there are several small rashes that fuse, they create scaling patches. Those flaking patches are mostly found in the scalp, knees and elbows. Psoriasis is not contagious.
